The Martin Luther King memorial was officially dedicated on August 28, 2011 and made up of 159 granite blocks. The Chinese artist ,Master Lei, sculpted 80% of the granite blocks in his studio in China. The other 20% were sculpted on site in Washington DC.
I arrived before sunrise to capture the MLK memorial and the Washington Monument in the background without all the tourists that visit the memorial.
My love of the outdoors and interest in photography goes back many years. I've always enjoyed photographing landscapes and nature and sharing what I've seen with other people. Like many photographers, I was never happy with the processing done at my local lab and my interest in photography dipped for several years until the advent of digital cameras. I was extremely excited about digital photography and jumped on the opportunity to go digital with a Nikon D300, my first digital camera. My enthusiasm for photographing the outdoors was back and have been enjoying it immensely. When the Nikon D800 with its full frame sensor was released, I upgraded.
