Description
The DC War Memorial is a circular, open-air, Doric structure built almost entirely of Vermont marble and finished construction in 1931. The memorial has an overall height of 47 feet and a diameter of 44 feet, large enough to accommodate the entire U.S. Marine Band. It was intended that the structure be a memorial and a bandstand and that each concert would be a tribute to those who served and sacrificed in the war.
I like photographing this particular memorial in the morning when the light is on inside the structure. I also like how the trees are in symmetry with the dome of the memorial. If you visit the World War II Memorial, do stop by and see the DC Memorial which is very close by.
