High Key American Lotus Canvas Print

Kenilworth Park and Aquatic Gardens is probably overlooked by many visiting Washington DC. The 7.5 acre sanctuary features over 45 ponds filled with a variety of water lilies, lotus, and other species. The gardens are surrounded by75 acres of fresh water tidal wetlands. A must see for anyone visiting DC.

For this particular shot, I was low to the ground and the lotus was backlit with the sun. I over exposed the shot by about 2 stops to get this high key effect which I think brings out the delicate beauty of the lotus.

My love of the outdoors and interest in photography goes back many years. I've always enjoyed photographing landscapes and nature and sharing what I've seen with other people. Like many photographers, I was never happy with the processing done at my local lab and my interest in photography dipped for several years until the advent of digital cameras. I was extremely excited about digital photography and jumped on the opportunity to go digital with a Nikon D300, my first digital camera. My enthusiasm for photographing the outdoors was back and have been enjoying it immensely. When the Nikon D800 with its full frame sensor was released, I upgraded.
